[Hong Kong June 2023] After opening in April 2023, Plantation Tea Bar in Sai Wan is evolving its offering further to include tea cocktails created by one of Hong Kong’s most esteemed mixologists, Antonio Lai, in collaboration with founder Nana Chan. A new destination for Hongkongers, Plantation Tea Bar offers a different kind of drinking experience for those looking for something more refined and elegant.
A self-professed tea infusiast, Antonio is the owner and founder of Quinary, a multi-award-winning cocktail bar currently listed at No. 16 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. No stranger to incorporating tea as an ingredient in cocktails, his Earl Grey Caviar Martini has been a bestseller on the menu at Quinary since the bar opened in 2012.
Antonio and Nana have put their talents together to create an all-new menu of six tea cocktails, all made with Plantation’s premium teas. Available to be ordered from 6pm till late, the drinks include Jasmine Sake, made with Cold Brew Jasmine Phoenix Pearls, Sake and Apple Syrup; Da Hong Pao Whisky consisting of Da Hong Pao Slow-Cooked Whisky, Angostura Bitters, Homemade Ginger Syrup and Liquorice Air; and the Tangerine Puerh Rum made with Puerh Slow-Cooked Rum, Tangerine Peel Syrup and Hawthorn Cordial. Most drinks can be made into a non-alcoholic cocktail if preferred.
“Tea is as fascinating as alcohol is,” says Antonio. “I've always wanted to have an opportunity to focus on tea like this, so this partnership with Nana is very exciting for me. A new challenge!”
The tea bar also offers seasonal 4-course Tea Tasting Menus, the latest of which focuses on China’s famous Longjing tea. It plays with different ways of consuming tea, including an authentic Hangzhou “grandpa-style” brew, a tofu dish topped with brewed tea leaves, and a chazuke-style dish with puffed rice crackers and roasted longjing tea soup. This menu is available alongside their Taiwanese Oolong tasting menu until the end of June, with two new tasting menus being introduced for summer (July-September). The July-September tasting menu will also feature an optional cocktail add-on.
The tea cocktails will be available at Plantation Tea Bar from 7 June, 2023 onwards.
